Strengthening Upper Limb Activities

Upper limbs involve the use of large and small muscles such as shoulders, arms, hands, and fingers. We use these muscles in many activities such as handwriting, playing catch, climbing, reaching, and picking up small objects. Developing good upper body strength is essential for mobility, postural control, fine and gross motor skills.
Here are some fun activities to try with your child at home or outside!
- Wheelbarrow walking – a great activity for developing arms, shoulders, and core strength.
- Wall push ups
- Animal walks – are also great and fun activates for strengthening these big muscles.
- Mountain climber
- Throw and catch a small or large exercise ball.
- Make the activity fun by playing with your child and let them copy you.
- Your child can also help with pushing a lightweight shopping trolley which is a great way of strengthening upper body and helping at the same time!
- Practice the activities everyday for at least 10 minutes
